Adam: Bale feud is in the past

Charlie Adam says he is eager to set aside the tension with Gareth Bale and focus on defeating Wales in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Friday.

A strong tackle by Adam on Bale during a pre-season match between Liverpool and Tottenham left the Welsh winger in crutches.

But the Stoke City midfielder insists there will be no bad blood between him and Bale, instead turning his attention to the threats that Wales possess in attack.

"Bale is good, quick but I don't think they are a one-man team," Adam said. "They have a number of players, like we have, who can win the game on their day. Aaron Ramsey is a top player, there is Ashley Williams, and Joe Allen at Liverpool.

"I wouldn't just single out Gareth Bale. But he is a top player and if we can stop him it will probably enhance our performance and probably our chances of winning the game.

"Whoever plays at right-back or left-back will deal with him. What has happened in the past has happened in the past, the most important thing is playing for Scotland and getting a result."

Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen will be a key figure for Wales as they look to pick up their first win of the qualifying campaign.

He believes it won't just be Adam who will fear Bale, but the whole Scotland defence.

When asked whether Bale will be concentrating on a battle with Adam, Allen said: "No, not from that point of view. I think Gareth Bale is a world-class player who performs every time he goes out on a football pitch and I am sure the Scots will be pretty scared about facing a player of his calibre."
