Man City want Jovetic, not Falcao

Manchester City would rather sign Stevan Jovetic than Radamel Falcao because they believe the Fiorentina star offers better value for money, ESPN understands.

Atletico Madrid have slapped a €60 million price tag on Falcao, with only a few clubs in the world able to afford such a high transfer fee.

Manchester City's name has understandably been mentioned alongside fellow big spenders Paris Saint Germain, Chelsea and Real Madrid as a potential destination for Falcao should he leave the Colchoneros, but Roberto Mancini wants to spend money on strengthening elsewhere, specifically with the signing of Jovetic.

The Montenegro international has been a target of City for some time and claimed he spurned that advances of the Premier League champions to say in Florence during the summer, though City denied that was the case.

Reports have now suggested City are ready to try to tempt La Viola with a €25 million bid in January, though ESPN understands the Italian side want at least €30 million for a player who has started the season in blistering form, with five goals in seven Serie A games.

City are reluctant to pay over the odds for players as they attempt to fall in line with UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules, and while that puts paid to any hopes of bidding for Falcao, Jovetic presents a more realistic option.

Reigning Serie A champions Juventus have also been linked with Jovetic, but Bianconeri director general Beppe Marotta told La Gazzetta dello Sport that a move is out of the question.

"We spoke to Fiorentina president Mario Cognigni and sporting director Daniele Prade about Jovetic," Marotta said. "Nevertheless, the player is no longer of any interest to us."
