Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Clement Chantome has revealed an ambition to make France challengers on the world stage again after receiving his first senior call-up.
Chantome, 25, has been drafted into Didier Deschamps' squad to replace Anzhi Makhachkala's Lassana Diarra who was forced to withdraw through injury.
"Informed exchanges between the doctor of the France team, Franck Le Gall, Dr. Grishanov (of Anzhi Makhachkala) and Didier Deschamps has ruled out Lassana Diarra," the French Football Federation confirmed.
And Chantome is keen to grab the opportunity to impress on the international stage with both hands. "It felt odd when I was told that I had to join (my compatriots) at Clairefontaine," he said. "I am very happy to join up with the France team. I feel pride at achieving this goal.
"This is a result in the hope that it is only a step, because the goal is to get back at the top level."
France's revised squad in full: Landreau, Lloris, Mandanda - Clichy, Debuchy, Evra, Jallet, Koscielny, Rami, Sakho, Yanga-Mbiwa - Cabaye, Capoue, Chantôme, Gonalons, Matuidi, Sissoko, Valbuena - Benzema, Giroud, Gomis, Ménez, Ribéry.
