Allsopp looking to impress Postecoglou

Melbourne Victory striker Danny Allsopp will have the chance to stake his claim for a regular starting position when his side lines up against Brisbane on Sunday.

Allsopp was on the bench for Victory's round one loss to Melbourne Heart last weekend, with the attacking depth at the club making it difficult for the veteran to break into the starting XI.

But with Socceroos striker Archie Thompson and New Zealand midfielder Marco Rojas missing this weekend's match through international duty, Allsopp will have the opportunity to impress coach Ange Postecoglou.

"It is tough for me this year in the way that we are set up. We have got quality playing in the front and that may not suit me but when I get a chance I will give 100 per cent," Allsopp said. "I would like to be playing every game but if I can't then I will have to make sure I'm working hard to keep the other guys honest.

"That's the way it should be. If the guys who are playing don't do their jobs then maybe someone does have to play but I am just going to do as well as I can and not worry about the following week."

Brisbane will also have a point to prove when they host Victory at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday night after surrendering a late goal in the 1-0 loss to Perth on the weekend.

Postecoglou returns to the ground he helped make a fortress over the last two seasons, but for the first time he won't have the backing of a vocal Brisbane crowd as he returns to face his former side. Allsopp believes that provides Victory with a tactical advantage.

"He [Postecoglou] will have some knowledge of some players and it will hopefully help us," Allsopp said. "But when the players go on the park you have to deal with the situations that arise because Ange is not on the field.

"I think about winning more than I think about losing and I have got a pretty good record up in Brisbane so hopefully I can keep that going. Our supporters should know that we are still working hard now and we are going to make things right."
