Moratti: Stramaccioni is like Mourinho

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti compared Inter coach Andrea Stramaccioni to Jose Mourinho after Sunday's 1-0 derby victory over AC Milan.

• Blog: Stramaccioni the new Mourinho?

Stramaccioni, 36, has won both derbies he has contested, and Moratti said his belief that Inter would win did not waver even when Yuto Nagatomo was sent off.

Speaking to Sky Italia, he said the game had brought to mind another great Inter result, explaining: "It reminded me of that epic battle in Barcelona on the way to the Champions League [in 2010], as we also fought on with ten men that day. I approached this game with a lot of confidence. I was even confident after we went down to ten men.

"I chose Stramaccioni for his technical abilities but also his intelligence. In my view, the thing that makes him most similar to Mourinho is his dedication to work. Like Mou, Stramaccioni is also a great coach. The defence did very well, and the credit goes to the coach for making the right decisions."

Stramaccioni played down the comparison, dedicating the victory to supporters who have backed the team throughout a difficult start to the season.

He told reporters: "It's not true that I am like Mourinho. The president said that I am a great worker on the field, which is the only comparison I want.

"The curva [area of the San Siro] had shown me a very generous banner after the defeat to Siena and kept supporting us while others jeered. These are things I remember and important values, so this victory is dedicated to my players and to the ultras."

The coach also laughed off complaints from Milan counterpart Massimiliano Allegri - who blamed the defeat firmly on the match officials - saying: "We were the ones who had someone sent off."
