Di Matteo warns players over conduct

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has issued a warning to his players over future standards of behaviour following a turbulent week for the West London club.

• Cole hits back at Shearer
• Chelsea to punish Cole

The Blues have come under the spotlight recently, with the Football Association finding John Terry guilty of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand and Ashley Cole then launching a foul-mouthed Twitter rant at the English game's governing body.

Di Matteo moved to announce disciplinary action against Cole on Saturday, and Di Matteo has warned the rest of his playing squad that they will have to face consequences should they fail to meet the standards expected of them by the club.

"The image of the club is very important to us, of course," Di Matteo said. "We have rules, and anybody who breaks the rules faces disciplinary action against them.

"We strive to have high standards and hopefully, going forward, we can be better at showing those.

"I come from Switzerland so I like rules, and rules are there to be respected. I wouldn't say I'm a disciplinarian but, when you live and work in a group environment, you need rules to be able to live together and work together."
