Samir Nasri left off French team

Samir Nasri's international exile continued Thursday after he failed to win a recall to the France squad for the friendly against Japan on Oct. 12 and the crunch World Cup qualifier against Spain on Oct. 16.

Manchester City playmaker Nasri has completed a three-match ban imposed by the French Football Federation for his conduct at the European Championship in Poland and Ukraine but was not selected Thursday by Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps.

"I didn't think it was the right time to call him back," Deschamps said. "I prefer to wait a while.

"But before his minor injury he put together a very good start to the season. He has scored and contributed a few assists."

Hatem Ben Arfa, another to have been disciplined over the summer, was also left out despite performing well for Newcastle recently with Deschamps instead including Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko and Lassana Diarra, who recently moved to Anzhi Makhachkala from Real Madrid.

Midfielders Abou Diaby and Rio Mavuba are injured but Montpellier full-back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is included even though he is suspended for the clash with world and European champions Spain on Oct. 16 at the Vicente Calderon in Madrid.

France meet Japan at the Stade de France four days earlier as they look to build on World Cup qualifying wins over Finland and Belarus which has seen them move top of Group I.

The complete team follows:

Goalkeepers: Mickael Landreau (Lille), Hugo Lloris (Tottenham), Steve Mandanda (Marseille).

Defenders: Gael Clichy (Manchester City), Patrice Evra (Manchester United), Mathieu Debuchy (Lille), Christophe Jallet (Paris Saint-Germain), Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal), Adil Rami (Valencia), Mamadou Sakho (Paris Saint-Germain), Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (Montpellier).

Midfielders: Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle) Etienne Capoue (Toulouse), Lassana Diarra (Anzhi), Maxime Gonalons (Lyon), Blaise Matuidi (Paris Saint-Germain), Moussa Sissoko (Toulouse), Mathieu Valbuena (Marseille).

Forwards: Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), Olivier Giroud (Arsenal), Bafetimbi Gomis (Lyon), Jeremy Menez (Paris Saint-Germain), Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich).
