Giroud unfazed by pressure

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud says he is "not worried about the pressure" caused by his lack of Premier League and is confident that the situation will soon change.

• Brewin: New stars lift Gunners
• Blog: A tale of two halves

Giroud, 26, has only scored for the Gunners in the League Cup against Coventry so far and, having missed a late chance versus Chelsea at the weekend, came off the bench in the 3-1 win over Olympiakos on Wednesday night only to squander another opportunity.

However, Giroud offset that with an assist for Aaron Ramsey's game-sealing strike and is content to concentrate on the positives. When asked whether he felt any pressure to score, he replied: "No. People say to me: 'The goal is coming soon, don't worry, we trust you'. It is very important for me to feel the support of people and my team-mates too, so I think we are good.

"We lost against Chelsea, but I think it was an accident and we are confident for the future, and me too. I am confident and I want to keep going. The goals are coming soon.

"I am not worried about the pressure. I want to play. It's like when you score one: you take confidence and more trust. You need to score, but I'm not worried about that.

"I feel good in this team, and I assisted tonight. It's OK - I will continue to work harder and to score and to give a lot of pleasure to our fans.

"Like you say, when I score my first goal in the Premier League, although I scored in the League Cup, it will be better and better."

Having clearly done his homework, Giroud also cited an interesting case from the past. "I don't know what to say, but Thierry Henry only scored [his first goal] in his ninth game, so it's a good example for a striker," he said.

"It's quite difficult to adapt to the Premier League. I'm always close to scoring, so I continue to stay confident."

Giroud also denied that it was difficult to make an impact from the bench, despite previously earning a reputation as a forward who needs to develop a bit of rhythm to start getting goals.

He added: " It was a good game when I came in. I am happy we won so it is perfect for me.

"At the beginning of the game, Olympiakos were in good positions tactically and so we had some difficulties to create some real chances.

"When we found the solution, we continued in the same way and, with a little bit more luck, we could have scored more goals.

"I tried. I try all I can but sometimes you need to keep the faith and keep going. Sometimes when you are a striker it is difficult. I feel very, very good in this city and with my team-mates and the people who work in this club, a very big club. I want to mature here and keep going."
