Mandanda hopes for improved showing

Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda is hoping to eradicate the mistakes which contributed to a shock 4-1 thrashing at Valenciennes on Sunday when they meet arch-rivals Paris St Germain this weekend.

Mandanda was part of a weak Marseille backline which underperformed as their 100% to the new season came to a grinding halt at the Stade du Hainaut.

At 2-0 down, OM were still in the contest but his mistake in attempting to pick out a defender by rolling the ball out only to see it intercepted and put into the net by Foued Kadir ended the visitors' hopes.

Their first chance at redemption comes against AEL Limassol in the Europa League tonight but Mandanda is already eyeing a meeting with the big-spending Parisians on Sunday night.

"We know the quality of the Paris team,'' he told RMC Sport. "We know we will have to be very focused and not make any mistakes. We should also be very aggressive.''

PSG's attack will be led by Ligue 1 top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic who has made a promising start to life in France following his summer move from AC Milan.

Mandanda added: "Ibrahimovic is a great player and the star of the league - a great striker in every sense of the word. But it is a football match and we do not fear him.''

PSG will be hoping to bounce back from last night's 1-0 defeat at Porto in the Champions League.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti was quick to blame a lack of experience in Europe's elite club competition for the setback in Portugal but he will be expecting better at the Stade Velodrome.

The Italian may have to do without the services of Argentina international Ezequiel Lavezzi for the trip south though.

The 27-year-old came on after 73 minutes against Porto but lasted just seven minutes before having to make way due to an adductor problem.

"It is too soon for a diagnosis so we will wait and see in the coming days,'' said Ancelotti.

PSG sporting director Leonardo added: "I think he felt something muscular. It's a shame to see a player who has just come on have to go off again so soon after.''

Lorient host Lyon hours before the Marseille-PSG match with the winner guaranteed to move up to second - for a short time at least.

It will be a return to Lorient for Lyon midfielder Arnold Mvuemba and he is looking forward to the experience.

He told www.fclweb.fr: "It is only a few weeks since I left Lorient and to return so quickly is a bit weird. I played there for three years and had a lot of fun. It's always special to play against former team-mates.''

Sunday's line-up is completed by fifth-placed Bordeaux's trip to Brest.

The weekend matches start with tomorrow's meeting between St Etienne and struggling Nancy while the pick of Saturday's fixtures sees Evian visit defending champions Montpellier.

Rene Girard's men salvaged a 2-2 draw from their trip to Schalke in the Champions League last night and will hope to now kick-start their domestic campaign after two wins from their opening seven games.

Troyes have found life hard following promotion and will look to record their first win at Bastia, Lille host Ajaccio, Nice go to Reims, Sochaux meet Rennes and Valenciennes will hope to build on their defeat of Marseille at Toulouse.
