Bunyodkor secure victory in thriller

Substitute Alibobo Rakhmutallaev scored an extra-time header to send Uzbek side Bunyodkor through to the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League with a dramatic 5-4 aggregate win over Adelaide United.

Bunyodkor had to twice fight back from behind to force the extra period against an Adelaide side who finished with nine men following the late dismissals of Fabian Barbiero and Iain Fyfe, while the hosts also had a man sent off.

The Uzbeks started as favourites in Tashkent having come from two goals down to draw 2-2 in Australia in the first leg last month, but the home side were stunned when Iain Ramsay put the visitors in front after just four minutes.

Lutfulla Turayev equalised for Bunyodkor, but Jeronimo Neumann restored the visitors' advantage with their second goal on 64 minutes.

Akmal Shorakhmedov equalised again in the 72nd minute to force extra time, with Barbiero dismissed in injury time at the end of normal time for his second bookable offence.

Anvar Gafurov was red-carded for the home side on 101 minutes before Rakhmutallaev pounced to send Bunyodkor through with a 114th-minute winner. Fyfe was sent off moments before the final whistle.

Bunyodkor will play South Korea's Ulsan in the semi-finals after they completed a 5-0 aggregate rout of Saudi former champions Al Hilal with a 4-0 win on the night in Riyadh.

Brazilian Rafinha put the tie out of sight with goals in the 22nd and 26th minutes while Kim Shin-wook and Lee Keun-ho added second-half strikes as the visitors finished off the contest in style.
