Jose Mourinho denies Sergio Ramos rift

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho may not have patched up his reported rift with team co-captain Sergio Ramos ahead of Wednesday's Champions League match versus Ajax, but he made an attempt at clarification.

"I have a better relationship with my wife than I do with Sergio Ramos," Mourinho said during the UEFA press conference. "But with Ramos the relationship I have is much better than with someone who I don't know, or work with or pass responsibilities with day-to-day. It is the same as the relationship with (Alvaro) Arbeloa and the rest. There is no problem. He is a great professional, I agree. Totally."

Regarding Sunday's incident, in which Ramos said he wore teammate Mesut Ozil's jersey underneath his own for good luck after Ozil was taken out of the match, Mourinho declined comment.

"You have to ask him, not me," said Mourinho. "I don't have any problems with him and it is true that we have a good relationship. About the jersey and his communication, you would have to ask him."

Ramos was included Tuesday on the list of players for Real's Champions League Group D matchup in Amsterdam against Dutch Eredivisie champions Ajax on Wednesday (2:45 p.m. ET).

"Finally, we have won three straight matches," Mourinho said of Real's play. "City with a special recovery, Rayo complicated to play and the team has known how to win over Deportivo, being down 1-0. Only a team that wants to win can come back. Here, we are all rowing in the same direction."

Ramos reportedly met Wednesday with his teammates in their Amsterdam hotel to reiterate his commitment to the team, according to Marca.

Ramos again insisted he has no beef with his coach.

Ramos said Tuesday he only wore teammate Ozil's jersey underneath his own for good luck in Sunday's 5-1 victory over Deportivo La Coruna.

"I would like to clarify a few things before more lies are told and people keep inventing. Mesut is a great friend and I told him a while ago that my first goal of the season would be for him," Ramos said via his Twitter account. "Taking advantage of the switch, I put hit his shirt on, with confidence that it could be my first goal. Nothing more."

"Also, my relation with Mourinho is good, honest and clear," Ramos tweeted. "I respect his decisions and he is, for me, the best coach. Go Madrid!"

Mourinho benched Ramos for Real's first Champions League matchup, a 3-2 victory over Manchester City on Sept. 18.

On Sunday against Depor, Mourinho shifted Ramos over to take Alvaro Arbeloa's place on the right side of the defense, a change Ramos said he knew was coming.

"Lateral was circumstantial, in the center I am more comfortable," he told Spanish media.
