Thomas eyeing West Brom comeback

West Brom winger Jerome Thomas has set his sights on a return to action after the international break and insists he has been assured of a future under new head coach Steve Clarke.

Thomas, 29, has been given clearance to resume training this week after a series of pre-season injuries which resulted in the need for knee surgery.

He has yet to figure for Clarke and was linked to a move away from the Hawthorns in the summer, with a number of Championship clubs interested.

But Thomas has been told he has a part to play at Albion and expects to be in contention for a return to the squad, after the latest round of World Cup qualifiers.

Assistant head coach Steve Keen confirmed Thomas' return to training and said: "Saturday may be a little bit early but, depending on what happens this week, he could be in the gaffer's thoughts soon. He is going to be an important cog in what we're trying to do."

Albion face Queens Park Rangers on Saturday looking to build on their impressive start to the new season under Clarke and are expecting captain Chris Brunt and defenders Steven Reid, Liam Ridgewell and Billy Jones all to be fit.

Reid and Ridgewell missed Sunday's 1-1 draw at Aston Villa with hamstring and calf problems respectively while Brunt (hamstring) and Jones (knee) were both injured during the game, leading to fears of lengthy lay-offs for the pair.

Keen feels all four have a chance for the weekend and said: "We're hoping that everyone might be available for Saturday but if not we've got the cushion of a couple of weeks for the international break.

"Billy got a knock in a tackle, so his knee is a little bit sore and we're looking at scans and things like that. Hopefully he will be fit for Saturday, but if not definitely the following game.

"We will keep an eye on Chris. It's maybe not as bad as it looked but we'll just see how we go. We're hopeful we will have as many fit as possible, which would give the gaffer a bit of a problem team selection-wise."
