Portugal move third in FIFA rankings

Portugal have made the biggest impression on FIFA's World Rankings for October, rising to third, while Colombia have broken into the top ten.

Spain and Germany remain in the top two spots with Portugal creeping up behind them, moving up one place from fourth after wins against Luxembourg and Azerbaijan in September.

Colombia have moved from 13th to ninth - the first time they have been in the top ten since July 2002 - having recorded impressive victories over Chile and Uruguay.

Greece also find themselves back among the big boys, moving up one place to tenth - their first time back in the top ten for exactly a year.

Portugal's rise to third is at the expense of England, who drop to fifth, while Argentina have moved up three spots to fourth to complete the top five.

The teams to drop out of the top ten are Croatia and Denmark, who fall from ninth to 11th and tenth to 18th respectively.

Algeria, Mali, Cape Verde Islands, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Philippines, Aruba, Guam and Montserrat have all reached their best ever position in the new standings.
