Barcelona's comfortable Champions League win Tuesday was marred toward the end when the four-time champion lost captain Carles Puyol, who dislocated his left elbow after landing awkwardly.
Barcelona, via the team website on Wednesday, clarified that Puyol will likely be out for eight weeks but will probably not need surgery.
Puyol had just returned from a hamstring injury in joining the side that beat Sevilla 3-2 on Saturday and in contrast to that match Barcelona got off to the perfect start in Lisbon as Messi's fantastic set-ups in each half for Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas lifted Barca past Benfica 2-0.
But the sting was taken out of the win with 15 minutes remaining when Puyol suffered his gruesome looking injury. The center back seemed to trap his arm underneath his body as he fell to the ground and was unable to move the injured limb as he was carted off the field indicating he almost will certainly miss the El Clasico clash with Real Madrid on Sunday.
And Barca's unneeded troubles were compounded when Busquets appeared to be harshly dismissed for blocking off an opponent in what seemed like a routine challenge.
