Crouch not pre-occupied with England call

Peter Crouch has played down his hopes of an international recall with England, despite a fine start to the season with Stoke.

The former Liverpool striker has netted five goals in the Potters' last five games, including a match-winning brace against Swansea at the weekend.

But he hasn't been involved with England since November 2010, and it isn't something at the forefront of his mind ahead of Roy Hodgson naming his squad for the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland later this week.

Crouch told the Stoke Sentinel: "Playing for my country is the best thing I have ever done but at the moment I just have to keep my head down and play well.

"If that call comes then great. I'm playing and scoring goals and enjoying it. The fans have been great with me, as have the players. Long may that continue."

Crouch puts his early-season form down to Tony Pulis' work in the summer transfer market.

Michael Kightly and Charlie Adam arrived at the Britannia Stadium to bolster the ranks, and the 31-year-old believes their ability on the ball has aided his cause in front of goal.

"I thrive on crosses and people getting the ball into the box; we do that very well," Crouch said. "But that's not to say we haven't got quality.

"I think we have some quality players and we can play as well now. I think at the Britannia this season we will certainly be a force."
