Sahin: Rodgers just needs time

Nuri Sahin is convinced that Brendan Rodgers' methods are starting to pay off at Liverpool and believes the manager just needs to be given time.

• Rodgers excited about Swansea tie

Sahin, 24, scored his first two goals for the club, after joining on a season-long loan from Real Madrid, as a youthful side won 2-1 at West Brom in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

It was Rodgers' fifth cup victory out of six games this season but he has yet to pick up a victory in the Premier League since arriving at Anfield over the summer.

His attempts to impose a quick passing, high pressing game are yet bring the results he would have hoped for, with Liverpool in the bottom three after Sunday's 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United.

However, the Turkey international can see parallels with his former club Borussia Dortmund - where manager Jurgen Klopp took three years to turn them from a mid-table side into Bundesliga champions - and Sahin is sure similar success will come at his new club.

"We played very well against Man United last weekend. That was a game we deserved to win," he told the Liverpool Echo. "If we keep playing football like this the results will come. I'm very positive about this season.

"The manager has a philosophy and we have to keep going with this. If the club and the supporters give him time then it will come. I know that because I come from a club in Borussia Dortmund where that happened."

Sahin was also full of praise for the young players who inspired Liverpool to victory at the Hawthorns and set up a Capital One Cup fourth-round tie at home to Rodgers' former club Swansea.

Jerome Sinclair, 16, became the youngest player in Liverpool's history when he came on as a late substitute, while fellow teenagers Andre Wisdom, Jack Robinson, Samed Yesil and Suso played a part too.

"Everyone should be proud of this team," Sahin added. "It was a young and inexperienced line-up but all the boys did so well. It was a special night for Jerome.

"Of course to get two goals was great but it was more important for me to help the team with my football. Day by day, I feel like I'm getting sharper."
