El Shaarawy ends San Siro hoodoo

Edinson Cavani hit a hat trick to maintain Napoli's strong start to the season

Stephan El Shaarawy eased the pressure on AC Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri with a brace to beat Cagliari 2-0 in Serie A.

Remarkably, El Shaarawy's opener was the Rossoneri's first goal at the San Siro this season and his classy second strike sealed a first victory in front of the home faithful.

Cagliari enjoyed dominant spells but were made to pay for Mauricio Pinilla's profligacy, never really recovering from Daniele Conti's dismissal for an altercation with Giampaolo Pazzini.

Edinson Cavani scored a brilliant hat-trick as Napoli maintained their unbeaten start to the new season by easing to a 3-0 win over Lazio at the Stadio San Paolo.

The Uruguayan could even afford to miss a second half penalty as the home side dominated the game against a Lazio side who have now lost two in a row after Sunday's shock home loss to Genoa.

Inter Milan put their shock home defeat to Siena behind them with a battling 2-0 victory over struggling Chievo.

Alvaro Pereira put Inter ahead just before the break and substitute Antonio Cassano doubled the lead 16 minutes from time as Inter bounced back from their 2-0 San Siro loss to bottom-placed Siena on Sunday.

The victory is Inter's third of the season and lifts them into the top four, while Chievo have now lost four successive matches since an opening day win over Bologna and they remain rooted near the foot of the standings.

Roma were held 1-1 at home by Sampdoria, who equalised after going down to 10 men.

Francesco Totti opened the scoring after 34 minutes and Roma's hand looked to have been strengthened when Enzo Maresca was dismissed for a second yellow card offence a minute into the second half. But Sampdoria defied expectations by drawing level after 62 minutes when Gianni Munari punished an error from goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

A wonder goal from Vladimir Weiss earned promoted Pescara their 1-0 victory in almost two decades at the expense of struggling Palermo.

Palermo shrugged off the disappointment of two disallowed Abel Hernandez goals and the setback of defender Steve Von Bergen's red card to dominate their hosts for the majority of the game.

But Pescara kept chipping away at Gian Piero Gasperini's tiring side, and Weiss' thunderbolt in the 86th minute condemned the Palermo boss to a second consecutive straight defeat since he replaced Giuseppe Sannino last week.

Stefano Colantuono found little to celebrate on the occasion of his 400th match as a manager as his Atalanta team slid to a 2-1 away defeat.

It came against one of his former clubs too, with Nicolas Spolli and Gonzalo Bergessio on target for Catania after Atalanta had edged ahead early in the second half through Maximiliano Moralez. Michele Ferri almost grabbed a late equaliser, but it was not Atalanta, or Colantuono's, night.

A late penalty from Marco Borriello, who had earlier missed from the spot, earned Genoa a point against Parma at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Former Genoa defender Alessandro Lucarelli put Parma in front in the 28th minute and Borriello missed the chance to level in the 67th minute when he hit the post from the penalty spot. He made amends three minutes from time, though, scoring a penalty which earned the Rossoblu a point in front of their own fans.

Torino and Udinese played out a 0-0 draw at the Stadio Olimpico with the Bianconeri refused a winner in stoppage time.

In a game played at a slow tempo, the Granata created the best chances on goal, but were unable to find a way past a Udinese side rotated heavily by head coach Francesco Guidolin. In the end, though, the visitors felt they had won it when Mehdi Benatia's header was stopped right on the goal-line by Jean-Francois Gillet, who had his work cut out keeping the ball out as he slid over the line.
