Galatasaray may move for Kaka

Galatasaray president Unal Aysal has revealed the Turkish Super Lig club will make a serious winter move to sign out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder Kaka should they progress in Europe this season.

• Sahin: I know where Kaka is going

Aysal believes Kaka could move to Istanbul in January if Galatasaray make it through the Champions League group stages.

"If we qualify for the next round of the Champions League we will try to put the icing on the cake," Aysal told Turkish TV station NTV. "Kaka could join us, although I cannot guarantee it. He would fit in well with the team. I would like to see him in a Galatasaray jersey."

The former Brazil international, 30, has not played a competitive game for Real since missing a penalty as Los Blancos were eliminated by Bayern Munich in last season's Champions League semi-finals. He was reportedly advised by coach Jose Mourinho to look for a new club during the summer, but Madrid's €20 million asking price and his €9 annual salary discouraged all reported suitors, including Gala and the player's former club AC Milan.

The recurrence of the Galatasaray link fits with reported comments by former Madrid team-mate Nuri Sahin on Turkish television last week, where the on-loan Liverpool midfielder said he knew that Kaka would move in January but could not disclose where.

"I know he had an offer from Turkish football," Sahin told NTVSport, "and I know what decision he is taking in the winter market, but I cannot reveal it."

The most recent reports in the Spanish media have, however, suggested the MLS as Kaka's most likely destination, with New York Red Bulls and LA Galaxy interested, and the latter apparently considering him as a replacement for David Beckham.

Kaka could line up for his side in the XXXIV Trofeo Santiago Bernabeu match against Colombian side Millonarios Bogota on Wednesday night, which is being played to mark the 60th anniversary of Real legend Alfredo Di Stefano moving from the Colombian side to the Spanish club. Di Stefano scored 307 goals in 396 games for Real, notching in each final as they won five successive European Cups from 1956 to 1960, and is currently an ambassador for the club.

Other Madrid fringe players who could get a run out in the game include reserve 'keeper Adan, defender Raul Albiol and winger Jose Callejon, while recent signings Michael Essien and Luka Modric should have a further chance to get used to their new surroundings.
