Real-Rayo match moved to Monday

Sunday's Spanish Primera Division match between Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano was postponed because the field lights at Vallecas stadium failed to work adequately in a presumed case of sabotage.

The game was rescheduled for 8 p.m. ET Monday at Vallecano's home stadium.

Vallecano had set a deadline of 4 p.m. ET to fix the damage on the malfunctioning light towers, which left the pitch without any floodlights, but that hour came and went without any progress being made.

Vallecano president Raul Martin Presa told the Spanish media the team suspects an act of sabotage has taken place.

"Vandals have cut the cables," Presa said in AS. "We're trying to fix the problem as soon as possible. We have asked security to open the gates to the stadium but we are waiting. The police are investigating the incident."

Madrid trails Spanish league leader Barcelona by 11 points in the standings.

Information from Press Association and The Associated Press was used in this report.
