Moyes: Everton players must keep focus

David Moyes has told his Everton players they must see games out if they are to bring glory to Goodison Park.

Moyes, whose team visit Swansea on Saturday, was critical of the officials for failing to award two legitimate goals for his side in Monday night's 2-2 Premier League draw against Newcastle.

But he was equally frustrated by the fact that Everton failed to win the game having taken the lead through Victor Anichebe with just two minutes to go.

Newcastle striker Demba Ba equalised in the last minute to leave Moyes feeling that two points had slipped away.

The manager is concerned that getting close and falling short has become a habit during his decade in charge, particularly when it comes to trophies.

Moyes has seen his side come close to glory more than once - most notably in reaching the FA Cup final in 2009 and the semi-final last season - and he has called on his team to prove they are ready for success.

"We've quite often done that and not got into the position we've wanted to be," Moyes said. "We've done that a few times. Whether it's been cup finals, semi-finals or chances to push ourselves into a really strong league position, we haven't got to where we've wanted to be. That's the next step we have to take here.

"We've been pleased with our form, we've been pleased with the performances of the players. We've could have maybe won it, and we didn't. And that's why we've got nobody else to blame but ourselves, because we were 2-1 up with a few minutes to go and we didn't see it out. So we've got ourselves to blame, not any officials."

Much of the talk after Monday's game at Goodison Park surrounded the failure of Mike Jones and his assistants to spot that an Anichebe effort has crossed the line before being hooked out by Newcastle defender Mike Williamson.

The incident has reopened the debate on goalline technology, although it is understood the Premier League has no plans to introduce it this season.

Moyes, though, felt the officials were more to blame for not seeing that Marouane Fellaini was onside when he scored the first of Everton's two disallowed goals.

He said: "I think something is happening (on goalline technology), isn't it? I think they're trialling technology. I still think the officials should have got it right. The goalline one, you can say needs technology, but the offside one was not going to change. You're not going to get technology for that.

"That was the one that probably disappointed me as much as the goalline one - the fact that he didn't get the offside decision right. So technology will come in on the goalline stuff, I've got no doubt about that. I think it's moving forward."
