Drogba rubbishes Shanghai exit talk

Didier Drogba has committed his long-term future to Shanghai Shenhua, following reports that he was set for a premature exit from the club.

Despite only signing in June, there were rumours that Drogba, 34, had been released following a power struggle between the two parties, with the player being linked with a move back to England, but the former Chelsea man insists he has no plans to move.

"I'm here. I just arrived, like, two months ago," Drogba said. "I'm really happy here - I am. I am really happy here. So I have no reasons to leave. I don't want to leave. I want to stay here as long as I can, win some trophies with my team, and make our fans very happy. It's difficult at the moment but I know that there is hope, and I believe."

Drogba even revealed that he may be happy to stay in China for longer than the initial two-and-a-half years on his contract.

"My contract is two-and-a-half years and maybe more," he said. "Maybe more and I hope more because I'm really happy here. I miss the Premier League because it's the best league in the world but, really, I don't regret my choice."

It had been suggested that a reason for the exit rumours was down to the player not being paid due to the reported financial issues at the club, but Drogba denied there is any truth in this.

"Of course they are [paying me]," he said.

The striker arrived at the club soon after Sergio Batista arrived as manager, but he has played down the significance of the club's reshuffle.

"It's what happens at a normal team, at a normal club, like it happened at Chelsea, like it happened at Manchester City, like everywhere," he said. "That's football, that's part of the game, you know. Like, the manager comes, if he doesn't get results, they change. It's the same thing. Football is universal. It's the same thing that happens everywhere in the world."

Drogba has hit four goals for his new club, who currently lie ninth in the 16-team league table, with just six games remaining.
