M'Vila accepts Rennes responsibility

Yann M'Vila has shouldered some of the responsibility for Rennes' poor start to the season.

After five games, Rennes are sitting in the relegation zone in Ligue 1, having suffered four defeats while only picking up one win.

To make matters worse, one defeat included a 2-1 derby loss to rivals Lorient last Sunday, despite having a one-man advantage for the majority of the game.

And M'Vila, who was linked with moves to Arsenal and Tottenham in the summer, has borne the brunt of the fan's frustration, receiving whistles when being substituted last weekend.

''I'm obviously the first affected after the supporters' attitude towards me," he said. "I'm affected but not ruined. I hope it will bring more motivation to me for the next match [on Saturday in Toulouse]. I'm sad but still confident."

The transfer speculation hanging over his head all summer has played a part in the fans' frustrations, as well as his poor form, but the France midfielder says he is happy to have stayed put and is now determined to get back to his best.

"I could have left this summer but I didn't. I always said I will be happy if I stayed here," he said. "The coach told me: 'If you stay and play badly in games, it's useless'.

"We need to find the great Yann M'Vila again. I'll do everything I can to get back in the France team but Rennes is the most important. If I play the same as I did against Lorient, I won't."

M'Vila is aware that his well publicised lifestyle is getting in the way of his football and the midfielder is determined to make a change in the hope that he will soon reap the rewards on the pitch.

''I went in Paris to see my family, but also to participate in sponsor events," he added. "I won't make that mistake again. When training ends, I now do some ultra-physical exercises. I try to eat better. I have to do this to reach a new level.

"I have also said goodbye to lots of friends, fake friends to be more precise. It is up to me to be more careful."
