Boateng: Milan calm despite slow start

AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has stressed he and his team-mates are not panicking about their disappointing start to the season.

Milan go into Sunday's Serie A away clash with Udinese having won one and lost two of their opening three league games, while in the Champions League, they got their campaign under way on Tuesday night with a 0-0 draw at the San Siro against Anderlecht.

After that last result - which meant they are still yet to score at their own ground this term having played there three times - the team were booed off by Milan fans and Boateng admits things need to improve fast.

The 25-year-old is also keen to emphasise, though, that the belief within the squad is strong.

"In the changing room, we're all calm,'' Ghana international Boateng said. "There's quality in the squad and we all believe in this team. Sometimes we've been missing a bit of luck in front of the goal but we think we can win the next game.

"It's natural that the fans will be angry because we can do better than what we've shown, myself first of all. I'm not at 100% and we'll try to get better game after game''.

Currently top of the Serie A table are champions Juventus, who will be looking to maintain their 100% start to the league season when they entertain Chievo on Saturday evening.

Andrea Pirlo, one of the stars of Euro 2012, has played every minute of the Bianconeri's three league games so far, as well as completing the full duration of their Super Cup extra-time victory over Napoli, their 2-2 Champions League draw with Chelsea on Wednesday and two international matches.

At 33, the midfielder is as key to the teams he plays in as ever, although Juve first-team coach Massimo Carrera admits care will have to be taken with the player in the weeks to come.

"Let's see in training in the weeks ahead,'' Carrera said. "Of course he played with the national team and played many games during last season.

"It is not easy for him to play when he is constantly marked by another midfielder from the other team. Occasionally he needs to come away from the action to let his team-mates do their job.''

Level with Juve on nine points from three games are second-placed Napoli, who are at Catania on Sunday afternoon, and third-placed Lazio, hosts to Genoa later the same day.

Sunday's other fixtures see Sampdoria face Torino at home in the early kick-off, Inter Milan take on rock-bottom Siena at the San Siro, Roma play at Cagliari, Atalanta entertain Palermo and Bologna and Pescara go head to head at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.

The Juve match on Saturday is preceded by Parma's clash with Fiorentina at the Stadio Ennio Tardini.
