Juve delight at Stamford Bridge draw

Juventus players and officials have expressed their delight after the club's return to the Champions League brought them a 2-2 draw against holders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

• Digby: Juve prove a point
• Brewin: Oscar centre stage
• Blog: Juve back among best
• Mikel sorry for error

Stephan Lichtsteiner said the match - in which Juve fought back from two goals down to secure a point - "showed we are good enough to play in this Champions League".

Midfielder Arturo Vidal, who scored his team's first of the night, told Sky Italia: "I'm happy the team proved the work we did last season led us to this.

"We're happy to be in the Champions League. We showed the same heart as last year in Serie A and want to play in three competitions, so this is the Juventus we need to see every game."

Fellow goalscorer Fabio Quagliarella said: "Considering the way the game was going, this is a very important result for us against the reigning champions. I was about to shoot with my left foot, then I realised the defender wasn't there so I took it into a one-on-one with Cech.

"It was a tough game. I was called upon and hoped to have a few chances to score. I took one and went close with another by hitting the bar. I gave my all."

Quagliarella was an unlikely scorer given that he had played just 15 minutes in the club's opening three Serie A matches, but stand-in coach Massimo Carrera said his display proved how important every member of the squad was.

Carrera, substituting for the suspended Antonio Conte, told the club's official website: "During the week, we watch the players and see who is in the best shape.

"Ale Matri played on Sunday, but Fabio shows perfectly that everyone is needed at Juve and can make the difference when called upon. He scored a great goal and threatened to win it at the end. We had a great performance and proved we can play on a par with anyone."

Captain Gigi Buffon, who told Sky Italia that "2-0 down was harsh considering the performances of the two teams", was quick to applaud the superb second goal from Chelsea's Oscar, saying: "Oscar turned on a sixpence and put the ball under the bar.

"I won't say it's nice to concede a goal, but it's still nice to be a part of a great goal like that. Compliments to him

"We're happy because we managed to secure a draw at a difficult venue. But analysing the game we found ourselves two goals down in a casual fashion. The scoreline was harsh for what we had displayed on the pitch and the personality shown up until then.

"Of course, we could also have lost, but it still would have confirmed the fact that we're competitive and the others must respect us.

"The fans, but also the players, had the dream to win the title and get back to competing on the European stage.

"This doesn't necessarily mean winning it, but having the respect of the other teams. And we've done just that.''
