Ancelotti revels in defensive options

Paris Saint Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti says he is delighted to have top-class defenders to choose from as he prepares to rotate his squad to cope with the challenges ahead.

Alex and Thiago Silva were paired at the heart of defence as PSG swept Dynamo Kiev aside on Tuesday, winning 4-1 in their Champions League opener at the Parc des Princes.

Thiago Silva, making his debut for the Parisiens, and Alex were both on the scoresheet as Ancelotti's side hit top form. And the Italian coach - who also has Mamadou Sakho to call upon - said: "I'm happy to have the choice.

"Thiago Silva did a fantastic job, and I hope Mamadou will be ready to play on Saturday. We'll have a lot of games to play this season, and we will need to make rotations in defence."

Thiago Silva said he had enjoyed his debut and his rapport with fellow Brazilian Alex, adding: "We have trained together with PSG and Brazil, but this was the first time we have played together in a senior game.

"Alex has a lot of qualities - it was pretty easy to find an understanding with him."
