Hamburg back under-fire coach Fink

Hamburg chief executive Carl Jarchow has told under-pressure coach Thorsten Fink that his job is safe.

As the club prepare to celebrate their 125th anniversary amid a dismal start to the Bundesliga season, Jarchow denied that internal talks about Fink's future had taken place and said the manager would be staying put.

"There is no basis for starting a discussion now," he said. "We are convinced about Thorsten. There have been no [internal] discussions, and there is no time frame for such discussions."

Jarchow said forthcoming matches against Dortmund, Borussia Moenchengladbach and Hannover were a "big chance" for the team - who have yet to get a point on the board - to get going.

Hamburg reinforced their squad with the late arrivals of Petr Jiracek, Milan Badelj and Rafael van der Vaart, and the chief executive urged the club's players to start showing their worth.

They have been in the Bundesliga for 49 years, and Jarchow believes there is no danger of that run coming to an end. He said: "It is only a question of time - we will get the results."
