Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho insited he has "no problems" with Sergio Ramos after the defender was surprisingly dropped from the starting XI against Manchester City.
Ramos was a shock omission from Madrid's Champions League opener at the Bernabeu, with French teenager Raphael Varane playing in his place.
The decision added fuel to recent speculation that the Spain defender has fallen out with his manager, but after watching Los Blancos claim a dramatic 3-2 victory Mourinho stressed that Ramos' absence was due to footballing reasons.
"Ramos did not play because the coach decided it was better for him not to play," Mourinho said. "I want to leave it very very clear that there is no problems between me and Sergio Ramos, no disciplinary issues, it was just a sporting decision.
"At this moment, Raphael and Pepe were more prepared to play a good game."
