Sannino accepts Palermo sacking

Former Palermo manager Giuseppe Sannino has accepted his sacking after three matches of the season, stating that it was for "the good of the team".

• Palermo sack Sannino

Sannino was appointed head coach of Palermo in June, but, after a draw and two losses in the opening three games of the 2012-13 campaign, he was axed by the club on Sunday.

Reflecting on his departure, Sannino told Radio Mediagol: "It is the task of the coach to lead and manage the team and, when he doesn't, the responsibility is his. It was the best moment of my career, I arrived in an amazing city, but I could not do what had been achieved in the past.

"I wanted to do better, and I agree with the criticism. The players had to adapt to my style, but maybe I should have adapted my style to the players available. I am grateful to Zamparini for giving me the opportunity, he acted in the good of the team."

Palermo have replaced Sannino with former Inter Milan boss Gian Piero Gasperini and one of his former players has backed him to succeed.

Domenico Criscito, who worked with Gasperini at Genoa, told Palermo24.net: "I know Gasperini and I know for a fact that Maurizio Zamparini has made the right choice.

"He is the best buy Palermo have made this season in my opinion. The players will learn to appreciate him very soon, he captivates players with work and with the beautiful game."
