Doyle: Wolves can only improve

Kevin Doyle believes Wolves can only improve following their faltering start under Stale Solbakken and 'should be in the top five or six all season'.

Last campaign's Premier League bottom club stood one place from the bottom of the Championship on Sunday lunchtime, but their nervous home victory over Leicester boosted them 13 places up the table.

And Doyle, 29, who last week captained the Republic of Ireland, says fortunes at Molineux will continue getting better.

"The win just gets us in the top half and sets us up nicely for a big week," he said ahead of the trips to Ipswich on Wednesday and Peterborough on Saturday. "The win has given everyone a better feeling around the place but it's going to take time.

"We have lads in hotels and in some cases trying to learn English but this result helps. It's getting that winning feeling again when you have been beaten a lot the season before. To have that feeling beats struggling at the bottom, as we did all last year.

"We're still unbeaten at home and looking forward to the next few months. We should be in the top five or six all season. That's our aim."

As well as netting twice for his country this season, Doyle has already broken a club goal drought that stretched back to February and sees good signs in his partnership with Sunday's first scorer, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

"There's a bit of freedom," he added. "We're playing teams who aren't as good, simple as that. The two of us haven't played a whole lot together, although we have both been here a few years, so it should get better and better.

"We have a new central midfielder, two new wide players....we're a work in progress. But we are expected to do well in the Championship as a team and the whole team are hungry to do well."
