Silva happy he chose City over Madrid

David Silva is happy he will be lining up for Manchester City rather than Real Madrid when the two sides meet in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Bernabeu clash could have been a home game for Silva, 26, who was also wanted by Real when he left Valencia in 2010.

But the Spain international opted for City and went on to win the FA Cup and the Premier League in his first two years at the Etihad Stadium.

"When I joined City, they showed more interest in signing me than Real," Silva said. "I'm happy with the choice I made."

It was the second time that Real could have recruited the playmaker. The nine-time European champions could have snapped him up when he was 11.

Yet despite the club pulling out of signing him, Silva is pleased with how his career has turned out.

"I didn't feel bitter that Real didn't want to sign me," Silva added. "I was very small. I was only 11 - I put it out of my mind. Maybe if I had gone there things would have been worse. I'm glad of the career path I've had."

Meanwhile, City are reportedly giving Silva a lucrative new deal to ward off renewed interest from Real. The World Cup winner's current contract ends in 2014 but a £200,000-a-week five-year deal could be agreed.
