Menez knows what is needed

Midfielder Jeremy Menez knows there is no room for error in Ligue 1 as Paris St Germain look to make up lost ground on the leaders.

Carlo Ancelotti's big-spending side are unbeaten in four matches but three draws have left them ninth in the table, already six points adrift of top side Marseille.

Having won their first match at Lille just before the international break they go looking for their first home victory against fifth-placed Toulouse on Friday.

"There is no longer too much room for error. We want to win Ligue 1 and we want to go far in the Champions League,'' he said. "We are desperate to beat Toulouse and go on a run of wins.

"But the pressure does not weigh at all because we know that we will play for the rest of the year.''

Defender Sylvain Armand accepts the opening to their season has been disappointing but he believes the win over Lille will help kickstart their campaign.

"It's been a mixed start because we could have done better with a fixture list that wasn't too demanding,'' he told PSG.fr.

"We should have more points from our opening four games of the season but we have improved because against Lille we showed another level of our game. I hope that game really marks the start of a great run for the team.''

Toulouse coach Alain Casanova is aware of the task ahead of his side but is not overawed by it.

"There's a game to play and it will be very complicated and I would be a liar if I said otherwise,'' he told tfc.info.

"We will go with our qualities and try to be strong mentally, physically and tactically but if we do have a high-level tactical response we will be in trouble.''

Montpellier have had a worse start than PSG, losing twice, and have a significant week ahead as they make their Champions League debut against Arsenal.

Before that, however, they play Stade de Reims looking to generate some momentum from their first victory a fortnight ago and coach Rene Girard insists they will not be distracted by their appearance in Europe's elite club competition.

"We have a series of close games but we're going to take the games one after the other and we are prepared for the Reims match,'' he told mhscfoot.com.

"This is a game to play with all the energy and discipline we possess.''

Reims have had a similar start to their visitors but forward Nicolas Fauvergue is not fooled by Montpellier's early troubles.

"They collectively struggled early in the season but took three points from their last game at Sochaux,'' he told stade-de-reims.com.

"If we can bring down the champions it would bring us great happiness and we know that we must take as much as we can from our home matches.''

Fourth-placed Bordeaux are away at Valenciennes on Saturday looking to move on from their draw at lowly Nice in the last round of matches.

"Valenciennes are a very good who have made a good start to the season and it is up to us to continue our momentum to get the three points,'' said midfielder Gregory Sertic.

Nice host Brest while of the bottom three teams Evian and Troyes are at home to Bastia and Lille respectively and Sochaux travel to St Etienne.

On Sunday leaders Marseille travel to play Nancy while second-placed Lyon host Ajaccio and Rennes are at home to Lorient.
