Robin van Persie suffers injury scare

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie was taken out of the Netherland's World Cup qualifying match vs. Hungary with a thigh injury, although Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal said Van Persie was not badly hurt.

"It does not seem to be too serious, but we did not want to take any risks," Van Gaal told Dutch broadbaster SBS6.

Van Persie was replaced by Klaas-Jan Huntelaar at half-time during the 4-1 win, after taking two knees to the thigh in a clash with Hungary defender Roland Juhasz.

Manchester United already has striker Wayne Rooney already sidelined for at least six weeks.

After the match, Van Gaal moved to ease fears the injury may prevent the 29-year-old from playing for United against Wigan as the Premier League resumes this Saturday following the international break.

"We took off Robin for precautionary measures. It doesn't seem to be too serious, but you never know. We didn't want to take any risks," Van Gaal told SBS6.

After joining United this summer from Arsenal for $38.6 million, Van Persie has netted four goals in three appearances and extended his club form to his country last Friday by scoring in the Netherlands' 2-0 win over Turkey.
