Granero: Easy decision to join QPR

QPR's Esteban Granero claims it was an easy decision to leave Real Madrid for Loftus Road after being sold by the club's vision.

Granero, 25, signed for the west London team for a reported £9 million during the transfer window and made his debut in their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on September 1.

The former Spain Under-21 international joined Real at the age of eight, before progressing through its youth ranks and into the first team.

However, after struggling to cement himself properly into Jose Mourinho's plans the midfielder accepted it was time for the next chapter in his career.

"It wasn't a hard decision to come here. I'm hungry and here I will be able to grow as a player,'' Granero said. "Real Madrid is a great club, I have played there since I was eight. I spent three years in the first team and I will always be thankful to them.

"But it was time to change and the best way to do that was join QPR. Since two weeks ago my thoughts are here and I don't miss anything about Real. I wanted to be a part of QPR. I'm sure the project here will be good for me and I'll be good for QPR. Everyone at the club trusts me and that's all I needed. I know I've made the right decision.''

After spending big during the summer, QPR's season has not got off to the start they had hoped for, securing just a solitary point from their first three league games.

Yet Granero believes they will soon start climbing the table once the new recruits have had time to gel.

"There are a lot of new players here so we must get to know each other first,'' he said. "We must improve, but this team will do that when it spends more time together.

"One point from the first three games is not unexpected, but this is not the way it will remain. This season will be great, I can see that in my team-mates' faces. There are quality players here, so just give us time.''

QPR's next game is at home to local rivals Chelsea on Saturday and Granero is well aware of the significance of the derby.

"Of course it's important to beat Chelsea because it will be our first win and give us a lot of confidence,'' he added. "It's great for our supporters because we'll be playing our neighbours in our stadium, so it's about more than just three points. We must train well this week and we will see what happens at the weekend, but we are very focused on the game.''
