Australia rocked by Jordan defeat

Australia remain without a win in World Cup qualifying after they slipped to a 2-1 loss in Jordan.

• Kagawa calms injury fears

Hasan Abdel Mahmoud opened the scoring in the 50th minute from the penalty spot, before Amer Deeb doubled their advantage.

Archie Thompson pulled a goal back for Australia in the final moments, but it was too little too late, meaning Jordan climb to second in Group B.

Japan saw off Iraq 1-0 with Ryoichi Maeda heading home in the 25th minute to secure all three points for the Asian champions in their Group B fixture.

Iraq had two close-range efforts blocked before the goal, while Keisuke Honda had a header tipped against the post by goalkeeper Noor Sabri in the second half.

The result, which maintained Japan's unbeaten start to qualifying, was only dampened by Shinji Kagawa's withdrawal before kick-off, due to a back strain.

South Korea slipped up away in Uzbekistan as they could only secure a 2-2 draw in Group A.

The home side took the lead through a Ki Sung-Yeung own goal, but Kwak Tae-Hwi and Lee Dong-Gook goals either side of half-time put the South Koreans ahead.

Yet their lead only lasted two minutes as Sanjar Tursunov got on the end of a corner to score a 60th minute equaliser.

Also in Group A, Lebanon overcame Iran 1-0 to secure their first win in qualifying, as Roda Antar's 27th minute goal proved decisive.
