Messi: I want more trophies

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has told ESPN that he puts the team's success over personal accolades.

• Di Stefano: Pele is the best ever

Messi, 25, was disappointed by the lack silverware at Barcelona last season, as the club failed to win both La Liga and the Champions League, but he acknowledged that it is a campaign that will live long in the memory due to his personal achievements.

"I would have preferred to have scored fewer goals and won more trophies, but due to the number of goals I scored, it will be a truly unforgettable one for me," he said.

The Argentine netted 72 times in all competitions last season, but finished with just the European Super Cup and Copa del Rey to show for his exploits. He is hoping for an improvement this time around.

"I hope this season is similar but I haven't set myself a target and I'm not thinking of a number. The more goals I score the better, and however many more titles we win, then that's even better," he said.

Messi credits his former Barca boss Pep Guardiola as the main reason Barcelona won 14 titles in the last four seasons.

"He was fundamental from the start, because we'd come from two years without winning anything," he said. "We felt low and sad, and he changed everything with his trust, his desires and his work ethic."
