Life's a bench for Lugano

Uruguay defender Diego Lugano has said he is not worried that he does not appear to be part of Carlo Ancelotti's plans at Paris Saint-Germain - not least because his "contract is really good".

• Ancelotti: PSG not all about cash

Lugano, who arrived at the club a few months before Ancelotti, has found himself confined to the bench in Ligue 1 and was not included in PSG's 25-man squad for the Champions League.

However, he highlighted the fact he was "injured for two months last year" as a factor in his lack of game time and believes he can still force his way into the first-team picture despite the presence of the likes of Thiago Silva and Alex.

"It is a challenge that I have taken on, and there is also the fact that my contract is really good," he told Ovacion. "That is an important factor in my decision. I live in France, I play in a great team and my salary is high, so I should not worry."

Lugano, who earns €4 million per season, has already been subject to an approach from Brazilian side Sao Paulo, who could revive their interest in the winter.

Lugano, 31, said he would be forced to consider such a move if he were to lose his place with Uruguay.

"If my situation at PSG should have an impact on my situation with the national team, I would need to have a rethink," he added. "The Celeste is too important for me."
