Arsenal must end season on a high

Redknapp returns to Bournemouth

Harry Redknapp is set to return to Bournemouth, the club where his managerial career began, in an advisory role.

The former Tottenham boss had said he was eager to make a return to football after being sacked from his job at White Hart Lane in June, with a return to the Premier League his priority.

He will not have an official title at Bournemouth's Goldsands Stadium but will offer his advice and expertise to all aspects of the club.

Cherries chairman Eddie Mitchell said he was delighted with the coup and believes Redknapp has a wealth of experience to offer the club.

"I met Harry for a chat and he offered to come in on a voluntary basis," Mitchell told Bournemouth's official website.

"He still has a passion for the club and for football, and he's got too much to offer for us to let him slip through our fingers. It's been in my mind for quite some time to get him involved, and the timing seems to be perfect for us to tap into his knowledge."

The new arrival will pile pressure on inexperienced Bournemouth manager Paul Groves, but Redknapp told the club's website last month he is a big admirer of the man who worked under his guidance during his time as Portsmouth boss.

"Paul is a great football man with good knowledge of the game and I'm sure he will do a great job for Bournemouth this season," Redknapp said. "It's fantastic to see the club moving forward and the owner has done an amazing job here."

Redknapp had a spell as Bournemouth manager from 1983 to 1992, achieving their highest-ever league placing in 1989.

"I had a great time at Bournemouth and it will always be a special club to me. I was manager for ten years and had some great times and got the club into the second tier of English football for the first time," Redknapp added last month.

He will travel with the squad to Huish Park on Saturday for their League One fixture against second-placed Yeovil.
