Diakite offered PFA support

Clarke Carlisle says Samba Diakite will have all the support he needs from the Professional Footballers' Association after the Queens Park Rangers midfielder felt the need to return to France.

• Carlisle: Education is key

Mali international Diakite, 23, travelled back to the country of his birth two weeks ago. The precise nature of the problem has not been revealed, but, regardless of the issue, Carlisle has said that the player can count on the PFA's support.

Carlisle told ESPN: "We try to make all our members aware that our services are available to every member 24/7. I know Diakite's gone home - which is probably the best place for him, to have his family around him, to have those love and support networks.

"It's important he is aware we're only a phone call away, no matter what the situation. We have the networks in place to support players when they're going through these difficult times and, as and when he feels like he wants to call on us, we'll be ready to give him all the support we can."

QPR manager Mark Hughes had recently pledged full support to the former Nantes midfielder, saying: "We hope he can overcome this very quickly and get back to being the outstanding player that he undoubtedly is. In the meantime, we are giving him the time and help that he needs."
