Squirrel 1 - Alan Knill

Scunthorpe manager Alan Knill has revealed he could have been killed after being thrown off his bike - in a collision with a squirrel.

Knill, whose side have lost all six games they have played this season in League One, the League Cup and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, said he hit his head on the ground after the rodent became entangled in one of his wheels and hit his brakes.

He told BBC Radio Humberside the accident had sent him careering over his handlebars, leaving him fearing the worst, but he escaped with cuts and bruises.

"I got hit by a squirrel.," Knill explained. "I went over the top of my bike and landed on my head, shoulder and neck. I saw it run into the road, but couldn't do anything about it and it just hit my wheel, stuck in my wheel and hit my brakes.

"For a minute, I thought I might have been in trouble because I landed on my head. Then, all of a sudden, I thought: 'I'm not, I'm alive'."

He said the accident had left him "pretty bruised" and added: "I could be dead, and it's so stupid. I'm not, and you have to put things into perspective. I don't cherish the situation we're in, but there are worse situations."

Knill saw his team's problems continue in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy when Notts County won 2-1 at Glandford Park thanks to goals from Enoch Showumni and Carl Regan.
