Galliani says Kaka deal was never close

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has said a deal to bring Kaka back to the club from Real Madrid earlier in the summer was "never close" to being completed.

Galliani told Sky Italia the clubs were never likely to agree terms for the move despite Milan being keen for a deal to go through.

"We couldn't make Kaka an economical offer without the consent of Real Madrid," he said. "We wanted to take him on loan but they only wanted to sell him outright, and we couldn't go over their heads. We were never close."

Galliani was also asked about the possibility of signing another Madrid star following recent speculation over Cristiano Ronaldo's future, and responded by saying: "Ronaldo? I'd like to be as unhappy as he is...

"There is no chance that he can arrive in Italy. Players who earn that much cannot be signed by us."

He praised Inter Milan over the swap deal that saw Antonio Cassano and Giampaolo Pazzini trade places, hailing Inter president Massimo Moratti as "a gentleman" and saying: "We quickly came to an agreement. Swaps take place in football, and Milan is a serene city where things can happen without any problems."
