Garcia dreaming of another City title

Javi Garcia is dreaming of a repeat of Manchester City's dramatic title-winning moment after declaring he has joined "the biggest club in England".

Garcia, 25, completed a £16 million move from Benfica to City on transfer deadline day - the biggest deal of the day.

And he has already endeared himself to the City supporters by declaring that they are the country's largest club.

"Without a doubt I'm at the biggest club in England and one of the biggest in Europe currently," Garcia said. "So I'm very proud but also aware I'm joining a great side full of top players."

City clinched their first league title in 44 years in May when Sergio Aguero scored an injury time winner to defeat QPR and overhaul Manchester United in the table.

And Garcia added: "I just thought it was amazing. It's a hard enough league to win in the first place but to win it in those circumstances, well if it's possible, you probably enjoy it twice as much. It was just incredible.

"I think at the start of the season any supporter would have taken that in an instant, winning the league in the last minute, right in the final second of the season. Let us hope we can have a repeat performance."

The Spain midfielder has been brought in as the sold Nigel de Jong's replacement but said he can provide City with another option in the back four.

"My natural position is central midfield, playing just in front of the centre-backs. I also played as an emergency central defender at Benfica when forced into it," he said. "But I feel most at home and I honestly think I perform at my best as a holding midfielder just in front of the defence. I'll have to keep battling hard to earn my place in the starting 11 because that's much harder to achieve here than at any other club."

Garcia became Roberto Mancini's biggest summer signing and has vowed to repay City's faith in him.

"They have given me a fantastic opportunity, bringing me into a really great team which will be fighting on all fronts to win trophies," he said. "What the fans will get is that desire and bravery I try to put in every game I play."

The ex-Benfica man also spoke of how much he is looking forward to experiencing Premier League football at first hand, having heard about the atmosphere in the English stadiums.

"I'm really excited because I know that the grounds are always full to capacity and the fans really love their football, supporting their teams in a sportsmanlike way, compared to some other places," he said. "I can't wait for my first game to come around so I can enjoy the whole spectacle just as soon as possible."
