England agree Nike deal

The Football Association has confirmed England will end their long relationship with Umbro and begin to wear Nike kits in 2013.

American sportswear giant Nike would take over the design and production of England training and match kit, in addition to other official merchandise.

The contract will run until July 31, 2018, replacing Cheshire-based Umbro, which was sold by Nike earlier in 2012.

The value of the deal is unknown, but is thought to be worth more to the FA than the previous Umbro contract.

Nike will also be given sponsorship rights at the new National Football Centre and Wembley stadium, and will be the sole provider of matchballs for the FA Cup.

FA general secretary Alex Horne said: "I am delighted that the FA has secured this new wide-ranging and comprehensive partnership with Nike. It is an extremely exciting time for both parties with the opening of St George's Park this year and The FA's 150th anniversary in 2013. I would also like to place on record our gratitude to Umbro and their significant contribution to the game, the FA and England teams, over a 60-year period.''

Nike Brand president Charlie Denson added: "The pride and passion of England fans is renowned throughout the football world and we are delighted to partner with the FA."
