Dempsey and Lloris join Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signings of Clint Dempsey and Hugo Lloris.

• Van der Vaart joins Hamburg
• Lloris deal in balance
• Giovani joins Real Mallorca

Spurs made a late swoop for Dempsey on Friday evening, with the USA international having been expected to sign for Liverpool throughout the summer. He follows Moussa Dembele in leaving Fulham for Spurs this week.

Dempsey, who had declared himself unavailable to play for Fulham this season, had turned down a move to Aston Villa earlier on Friday. Liverpool were later reported to have failed with an offer, although ESPN had been informed that was not the case.

He has now penned a three-year deal with Spurs, with the transfer fee reported to be in the region of £6 million.

A statement from the West Londoners read: "Fulham Football Club can confirm that, on Friday evening, Clint Dempsey joined Tottenham Hotspur. Clint was a very influential player for Fulham over a number of seasons and the club thanks him for his contribution and wishes him well for the future."

Dempsey had been hankering after a move to Liverpool all summer, but he is now more than happy to have signed for Tottenham.

"To play under this head coach and play for this club is a dream come true. I want to make the most of it," Dempsey said on Tottenham's Twitter feed.

"There are a lot of great players here, I'm looking forward to training and playing with them."

Spurs also completed the signing of France goalkeeper Lloris on a four-year deal

The 25-year-old arrives for an initial €10 million, which could rise to €15 million, while Lyon will be entitled to 20% of any future transfer fee.

"I am here because I believe in Tottenham," the goalkeeper told Spurs TV Online. "I think everything is okay for the future of Tottenham. They have great team, great players, and a great coach so everything is all right, I think, to win a place in the Champions League next year.

"Now we have to prove that on the pitch and I am ready to give it my all for the club and for the fans."

Lloris, the France captain, has made 38 appearances for his country.
