Charlie Adam, Maurice Edu land at Stoke

Stoke has completed the signing of midfielder Charlie Adam from Liverpool on a four-year contract.

The Scotland international has moved for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of 4 million pounds ($6.3 million).

Announcing the news on their official website, the Potters said the fact the transfer had been sealed before midday meant they were hopeful Adam would be available for Saturday's Barclays Premier League clash with Wigan at the DW Stadium.

Speaking to www.stokecityfc.com, Adam said: "I'm delighted to be here and to be given the opportunity to work with the club, the manager (Tony Pulis) and the players.

"This club's on the up and it's great to be a part of it. I hope I can help them to improve upon the success which has been achieved over the past few years. Hopefully, we can have a successful time together. I can do this club proud and I'm looking forward to the chance of playing in front of their passionate supporters."

Also Friday, U.S. international midfielder Maurice Edu says he has completed his move to Stoke City from Rangers.

Edu, 26, posted on his Twitter account that the switch was "finally official", adding: "Excited & looking forward to this next chapter in my career. Thanks for all your well wishes & support!"

On Thursday, the Potters revealed that they had been given permission to finalize Edu's work permit application after the player had agreed to a three-year deal and passed a medical.

It was only last summer that Kenny Dalglish signed Adam for Liverpool from Blackpool.

He had been one of the Seasiders' star performers in both 2009-10, which finished with their victory in the Championship playoff final, and 2010-11, the club's maiden Premier League campaign which ultimately ended in relegation but earned Ian Holloway's team plenty of admirers.

It meant Adam's stock was high when he arrived on Merseyside, but he has struggled to make a significant impact at Anfield and this season, under Dalglish's successor Brendan Rodgers, he has made just one start.

The 26-year-old admitted his first-team prospects were not looking good at Liverpool and he is hoping to see plenty of action with Stoke, which is now in its fifth Premier League season.

"The opportunity to play was getting less and I felt that at my age, I wanted to play every week and hopefully I'll get a chance to here," Adam said. "It's a great club that is going in the right direction -- the foundations are here."

Adam netted just twice last term and is looking to rediscover his scoring touch from his Blackpool days, having managed 12 Premier League goals during the season they were in the top flight.

He said: "I want to get back to scoring goals -- that was one of the things I didn't really do last year. I'm hoping I can get back to that and help the team improve on what they've done in the previous four of five seasons here."

Pulis is certainly optimistic that Adam can chip in with a decent share of goals.

"It's no secret that we've been looking to bring more goals to the squad and Charlie is a fantastic signing in that respect," the Potters boss said.

"Not only will his creativity and his eye for delivering a pass be a great asset to us, he scored 12 goals for Blackpool in the Premier League two seasons ago.

"We are looking for more goals from all areas of the team and his arrival gives us more competition for places in that department."

Stoke has also signed Jamie Ness, Michael Kightly and Geoff Cameron this summer.
