Spearing joins Bolton on loan

Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing has completed a loan move to Bolton for the rest of the season.

• Live Transfer Blog: Deadline Day | • Full list of Done Deals

Spearing, 23, who had a short loan spell in the Championship with Leicester in 2010, has only featured in the Europa League since Brendan Rodgers took charge at Anfield.

The academy graduate is a former Liverpool youth-team captain, has made 55 appearances for the club and played 16 times in the Premier League last season.

But his first-team chances under Rodgers were reduced by the £15 million signing of Joe Allen from Swansea a week before the start of the Premier League season.

Spearing is set to go straight into the Bolton line-up for Saturday's Championship match at Hull.

Bolton manager Owen Coyle said: "We have been in the market for a player of this kind for a long time, and Jay is someone that we have always had an eye on. He was previously never available and, indeed, played the majority of games in Liverpool's first team last season in the Premier League."

Coyle will be hoping Spearing can play a pivotal role in a Bolton side, which has taken four points from their opening three games, and lost to Crawley in the League Cup.

"We did everything we can to bring Jay to the football club and so we are thrilled to bring in a player of his calibre. He is a young player that is driven, who is a terrific passer of the ball. He has a real desire to do well and has all the attributes that we crave at Bolton Wanderers."
