Defoe signs new Spurs deal

Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has signed a new contract - bringing an end to the speculation regarding his future at White Hart Lane.

England international Defoe found his playing time limited under former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp but has been given a new lease of life by Andre Villa-Boas.

Defoe said on his Twitter page: "Fantastic week signed my new contract at spurs & meeting up with England on Monday for 2 important games #goalsgoalsgoals."

On Thursday, the 29-year-old was included in Roy Hodgson's England squad for World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine.

Defoe himself appeared to cast doubt on his future at Spurs when he publicly declared earlier this summer that he would consider leaving if he was not promised first-team football.

Villas-Boas has been linked with a number of forwards - including Leandro Damiao, Loic Remy and Willian, but he now appears content with his three strikers - Defoe, Emmanuel Adebayor, and academy graduate Harry Kane.
