Hodgson calls on Terry

Chelsea captain John Terry has been included in the England squad to face Moldova and Ukraine in World Cup qualifiers next month.

Terry, who has twice been stripped of the England captaincy, recently denied a Football Association charge of racially abusing QPR defender Anton Ferdinand and the case is still ongoing.

However, manager Roy Hodgson said he would include Terry if he was fit, and has stuck to his word.

Chelsea duo Daniel Sturridge and Ryan Bertrand are included after being involved in the friendly win over Italy in Berne a fortnight ago, when Hodgson fielded an experimental side.

Bertrand provides cover in both left back and left-sided midfield roles, while Sturridge has kept his place with Wayne Rooney out injured.

As expected, Jack Butland and John Ruddy were named as back-up keepers to first-choice Joe Hart.

It means Rob Green has lost his place as understudy from Euro 2012, completing a bad 24 hours for QPR new-boy following Julio Cesar's arrival as part of the Loftus Road revolution.

Kyle Walker, who missed out on the European Championship due to a broken toe, has been named at right-back along with Liverpool's Glen Johnson.

The squad:

Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Birmingham City), Joe Hart (Manchester City), John Ruddy (Norwich City).

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Joleon Lescott (Manchester City), John Terry (Chelsea), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur).

Midfielders: Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Adam Johnson (Sunderland), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Manchester City), Theo Walcott (Arsenal).

Forwards: Andy Carroll (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham Hotspur), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United).
