Blackburn sign Jordan Rhodes

Blackburn Rovers have signed Jordan Rhodes after Huddersfield accepted an £8 million bid for the Scotland international striker.

The £8 million bid was their fourth offer for Rhodes and has now concluded a summer-long pursuit of the prolific 22-year-old on a five-year deal.

Rovers complete record-breaking deal for Scottish international striker. Blackburn Rovers have agreed a club record £8m deal with Huddersfield Town for the signing of much-coveted striker Jordan Rhodes.

Rovers boss Steve Kean said: "Jordan is a top class striker and we are absolutely delighted to bring him in. His record is there for all to see and I believe he can play a major role in our drive for promotion back to the Premier League."

Rovers' managing director Derek Shaw, instrumental in the record-breaking transfer, said: "An awful lot of work has gone into this deal and we are all indebted to Mrs Desai and her family for their magnificent support. From the very first day I walked in here, the owners have given superb backing for everything we are trying to do on and off the field. That is where the credit is really due."

Rhodes scored 40 goals last season to help Huddersfield win promotion from League One and opened his Scotland account in the 3-1 win over Australia earlier this month.

He has two goals in two games for the Terriers this season and 87 in 148 games since joining from Ipswich in 2009.

Blackburn lost last season's top scorer Yakubu to Guangzhou and then saw his replacement, the £3 million Newcastle striker Leon Best, be ruled out for six months with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

The Portuguese teenager Edinho led the line in last week's 2-1 win over Leicester as Colin Kazim-Richards, who had scored in their first two league games of the season, was also sidelined.
