Real Madrid in Debuchy link

Real Madrid have upped their search for a new right-back, as Jose Mourinho suggested that the club could do more business before the summer's transfer window shuts on Friday.

Lille's Mathieu Debuchy and Internazionale's Maicon are the names in the frame, according to various reports in the Spanish media on Wednesday morning.

Mourinho said at his pre-Supercopa second leg press conference on Tuesday that the next few days could see players both coming and going at the Bernabeu.

"Modric's arrival does not mean the door is closed," Mourinho said. "Not for arrivals or departures. It is open for everything."

Widespread reports in the Madrid media said Real had joined Premier League side Newcastle in the hunt for France international Debuchy, 27, who earlier in the summer told French television he saw his future away from the Ligue 1 club.

Alan Pardew's side have reportedly had a £6 million bid turned down for the player, who has missed Lille's last three games with an ankle injury, and looks unlikely to start their Champions League play-off at home to FC Copenhagen on Wednesday evening.

With the Danes holding a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, Lille chairman Michel Seydoux told l'Equipe that progress in the competition would be unlikely to affect Debuchy's future.

"If we fail to qualify for the Champions League would I be forced to accept Newcastle's proposal?" said Seydoux. "You know that I am not very flexible when it comes to business."

Inter defender Maicon remains another option for Madrid, with Italian daily Il Corriere dello Sport suggesting on Wednesday morning that the Serie A side could be tempted by a loan move involving midfielder Lass Diarra.

With Sergio Ramos now firmly established at centre-half, Alvaro Arbeloa is the only recognised right-back in Mourinho's squad. Diarra, Fabio Coentrao and Raul Albiol were tried there last season with limited success, while last season's regular youth team player in the position Daniel Carvajal joined Bayer Leverkusen in July.

Mourinho confirmed on Tuesday that the futures of Real's playmaker Kaka and defender Ricardo Carvalho remain uncertain, while Modric's arrival looks to have pushed Esteban Granero closer to the exit door.

Marca reports that Granero's agent Carlo Cutropia is trying to find him a loan move, with Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers as well as La Liga's Malaga and Real Betis all potential suitors.
