Heynckes hints at 2013 Bayern departure

Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has indicated that he could leave the club when his contract expires in 2013, but has denied making any definite decision.

Heynckes, speaking to Sueddeutsche Zeitung, explained: "To be perfectly honest, we have a two-year contract which ends on June 30 2013. Then another stage of life comes to an end."

The 67-year-old denied that he would definitely be leaving his job at the end of the season, saying: "We agreed to discuss my future in spring - that's when we will make a decision."

And he later told Liga Total: "I can understand that my statement left room for interpretation... at the end of this season, a stage of life comes to an end - but it can also end in 2014.

"Anyone who knows me will tell you that I will tackle this season with a lot of dedication and great passion."

Bayern director of sport Matthias Sammer urged people not to focus on Heynckes' contract, saying: "Now it's time to start working, and then it is also down to me to spark enthusiasm in Heynckes. The question is: why should we limit this to a timescale?" Bayern have already been linked with a move for former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola. Other names mentioned as potential successors to Heynckes include Mehmet Scholl and Sammer, who became the youngest-ever coach to win the Bundesliga when he triumphed with Borussia Dortmund in 2002 but has said he does not want to coach again.
